Learning data analytics starts to click when you move away from vague explanations and actually work with real data. At least this is the way I felt when I started.

I’ve done a whole step-by-step series: The Data Analytics Roadmap. But for this I wanted to focus more on the projects, the projects you can use to build real skills.

Data Analytics make more sense once you see how these tools connect to the types of problems people face in offices, hospitals, small businesses, etc.

In this article, I’ll walk through five practical projects that get a little more challenging as you go. Each one shows you a different part of the data analysis process, from understanding the data you have to cleaning it, shaping it, analyzing it, and turning it into something useful.

Every week you’ll be introduced to a new topic in Python, think of this as a mini starter course to get you going and allow you to have a structured roadmap that actually builds to create you a solid foundation in Python. Join us today!

The projects begin at a very simple level on purpose. Pandas can do a lot, but you need to learn one piece at a time. Think of each project like a step on a ladder, a ladder to where you want to get in your careers.

The first step is easy to reach. As you climb, the work becomes more realistic. By the time you finish the last project, you’ll be comfortable with merging several files, handling messy values, working with outliers, calculating key metrics, and preparing insights that could fit into a dashboard.

I spent some time researching and trying to put together projects that actually build out your skills. I’ve ran through a few scenarios and I feel these ones will do you all the most justice. Feel free to swap the projects out but make sure you hit the skills.

If you’re new to data analysis and want a clear path, or you’re getting ready for real work in a data role, these five projects reflect the kind of tasks analysts handle every day.
