You follow along, the app works, and you feel good. Then you stumble across another tutorial that uses a different library. You follow that one too.

Soon, you’ve got a bunch of half-understood ideas, a folder full of copied code, and this little voice in your head saying, “I’m not actually any closer to building something on my own.”

This is what people call tutorial hell. It happens when you spend more time passively watching than actively building. Tutorials can help you recognize patterns and learn the terms, but they don’t give you the problem-solving reflexes you need.

The jump from “I can follow instructions” to “I can make my own design decisions” is the same jump from just knowing code to actually building real apps.

There are also practical reasons this happens. Tutorials are usually simplified, opinionated, or focused on one narrow feature. They skip the messy parts—like bugs you’ll hit, deployment headaches, or connecting everything together.

If you never run into those problems, you never learn how to deal with them. The way out is deliberate practice: small, frequent projects that have real limits and real challenges.
